VOLUNTEERS

LEARNING EXTENSION CENTERS

Elementary, Middle, and High School Students

Volunteers needed

Please help us to be a blessing to Columbus school kids this year. We still need at least 15 volunteers! The time commitment is small, one morning (8:30- 12:30) or afternoon (12:30-4:30) on Monday or Wednesday or Friday. We would like to have consistency for the kids beginning September 14th to mid-December.

Some of our needs include:

Greeters/check-in, serving meals, techs to help with chrome book issues, counseling, and tutoring/help with studies (masks are required for everyone). If working closely with children is a problem for you right now, there are many other ways to help! We have prayer needs for consistent prayer covering.  Life groups or individuals will have the opportunity to “adopt” a student and leave encouraging notes and little surprises on their desks weekly. We want to be able to show the love of Jesus to all who get assigned to our location.

Because we are operating under the leadership of the Dream Center, we are able pray for the students and share Jesus and the Bible with them while they are here. You will need to text LEC to 614-881-5001 right away to get signed up as a volunteer. Once you text, you will be sent a link to the volunteer form. Follow the instruction to complete and submit the form.  This form does not include a space to volunteer for the morning shift.  If you wish to help during that shift, we ask that you write “Christian Community Church 9-12” in the box at the bottom that asks how you learned about this opportunity.  The Dream Center will send you a follow up email with further instructions.  There are two videos you must watch in order to complete the volunteer registration.

Once your training is complete

Pastor Leslie will reach out to place you in a spot that works for you.  Please help us help the children, what a great way to be the hands and feet of Jesus during this pandemic!

FAQ

WHAT IS A LEARNING EXTENSION CENTER (LEC)?

LECs are safe spaces for school children to have educational support with internet, meals and tutors.

HOW ARE LECS SET UP TO MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING?

The number of students in each LEC has been determined by allocating 36 square feet per individual. This provides 6 feet of social distancing space between students.

WHAT IS THE WEEKLY SCHEDULE AND HOW OFTEN SHOULD I COMMIT TO SERVING?

The volunteer schedule is every Monday, Wednesday and Friday either 8:30am-12:30pm or 12:30-4:30pm. We ask each volunteer commits to serving at least one session one day per week.

WHAT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES EXIST WITHIN EACH LEC?

Each LEC has the following volunteer roles: Teaching/Tutoring Lead, Meal Lead, Check-In Lead and Tech Lead.

If you are not able to commit to working a session, there are other ways that you can serve at Christian Community Church.  We will have opportunities to welcome students to the building before each session, clean the learning space before each session, and of course pray for the LECs and the families involved. There will be opportunities for Life Groups to write encouraging notes to the students as well.  There are so many ways to get involved!

The first step is to fill out a Volunteer Application Form. The Dream Center team will follow up with you shortly, as further training is required.   Once you have completed the required training, Pastor Leslie will reach out to help place you in a serving spot that works for you!

IF I PREFER NOT TO BE AROUND GROUPS OF PEOPLE, CAN I STILL SERVE?

Absolutely! Every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:30-3:00pm, we have opportunities available for volunteers to clean the LECs and help prepare for the following day. Additionally, if you enjoy administrative tasks, we have a team of volunteers working behind the scenes.

ARE THERE DAILY SELF-SCREENING PROCEDURES FOR STUDENTS AND VOLUNTEERS?

Yes. Students, volunteers and staff are required to not attend the LEC  if any of the following screening questions are true:

  • Do you have any of the following symptoms?

    • Temperature 100°F or higher in the previous 24 hours? Persistent cough? Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing? Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea? Loss of taste or smell? Body aches? Headache? Sore throat? Runny nose or congestion?

  • Have you been asked to self-isolate or quarantine by a medical professional or a local public health official?

  • Have you been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 10 days?

ARE FACE COVERINGS REQUIRED?

Yes. Until there is a change in the Ohio governor’s mandate or CDC recommendations, face coverings will be required for students, as well as for volunteers.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO GET INVOLVED?

The first step is to fill out a Volunteer Application Form. The Dream Center team will follow up with you shortly, as further training is required.   Once you have completed the required training, Pastor Leslie will reach out to help place you in a serving spot that works for you!

WHEN ARE LECS OPEN?

Currently, the plan is to have each LEC open from September 14 to December 18. These dates are subject to change based on announcements from the school district.
