Classes@WaterStone FAQ
The goal of Classes@WaterStone is to build a strong Christian foundation and catalyze spiritual growth. We offer many classes and experiences designed to accommodate the wide variety of needs and schedules throughout the week.
Sunday morning classes are held during both of our worship services at 9 and 10:30a. Some of the classes are short term – four to 8 weeks, while others meet year round, changing their topic of study several times per year. Classes are offered in categories (Bible/Theology, Spiritual Practices, Faith in Action, Family Matters, Hope and Support, and Financial Matters) and are held in a variety of formats from large group lectures to interactive discussion in smaller settings. Midweek classes are held Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:15pm. Classes vary in duration from one night seminars to 8 week courses. Classes are offered in categories (Bible/Theology, Spiritual Practices, Faith in Action, Family Matters, Hope and Support, and Financial Matters) and are held in a variety of formats from large group lectures to interactive discussion in smaller settings. Weekend classes cover a variety of topics and range from lecture style to discussion format in either a classroom or workshop setting. Check the individual class for dates and times. Frequently Asked Questions Why are we offering classes? Due to the degree of spiritual growth diversity in our congregation we have experienced greater challenges in providing growth tools that serve the entire congregation in large gatherings. Therefore, we provide multiple, small to mid-sized opportunities (10 – 40 plus people) that are designed to challenge individuals to move forward in their spiritual growth. Is there a charge to attend a class? Usually there is. The reason being that each class usually provides materials and/or a book for resource. A portion of the fee may also help cover childcare costs and/or dinner if it's provided. Some courses in our Hope and Support category offered by our counseling team have weekly fees to cover the professional time of the counselor. Our Subway Lecture series is free. Are some classes at more advanced levels than other classes? The class description will note if a class requires some amount of reading and homework outside of the class time. Most classes are offered at an introductory level with no homework and any outside reading would be optional. There are no grades or tests involved. Why do I have to register? Due to space limitations and materials preparation (how many books to order or handouts to prepare) we require registration. If payment is required, it will be collected the first day of class. If you do not register, all empty seats will be released 15 min prior to the beginning of class. Who is on the faculty? In addition to utilizing our own teachers from WCC, we also bring in teachers from the outside such as seminary professors and respected instructors. Will there be childcare? The class description will note whether there is childcare available. On Sunday mornings your children are able to participate in our Splash Sunday School. Classes are designed for individuals ages 12 and above. Due to security and safety issues, children under 16 must have parental supervision while in the building. How do I cancel a class?
