Aging and Adult Services provides:

Long-Term Care Eligibility or financial eligibility determination for persons needing nursing home or in-home services paid through Medicaid

Options for Long Term Care (OLTC) case management for persons in Medicaid-paid in-home and facility-based care

Adult Protective Services case management for adults at risk of abuse, neglect or exploitation

Veterans Services to assist veterans with claims for services-connected compensation, pension, burial, medical treatment, GI Bill, vocational training

The SOAR Grant to assist homeless/disabled navigate the Social Security system

Economic and Medical Assistance Services provides:

Food Assistance or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) formerly known as food stamps

Helps Temporary Aid to Needy Families (TANF) seek stability and self-sufficiency by planning for the future and providing basic supports

Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP)

Provides financial assistance, support services, and child care options to families seeking stability and self-sufficiency. Parents served are:

• working

• searching for work (up to 30 days)

• younger than 22 in a high school diploma program

• pursuing a post-secondary degree or certificate (up to 24 months)

• enrolled in GED, ESL, or Adult Basic Education

Partners with parents to meet the financial and emotional needs of children.

Reimburses the county for public assistance and foster care costs.

Avoids families needing to be on public assistance.

Core services provided are:

• Establishing paternity, child support orders, medical coverage orders and foster care fees.

• Enforcement of the orders, including collection of child support arrears balances, and review     and modification of existing child support orders.

3.  Children, Youth and Families http://jeffco.us/cyf/index.htm

Investigates allegations of child abuse and neglect.

Provides protective services to children and youth who are at-risk, or are victims of child abuse and/or neglect.

Assists in reducing or eliminating conflicts between youth and their family members or the community when those conflicts affect the youth’s well-being, the normal functioning of the family or the well-being of the community, or in re-establishing family stability. There are two target groups:

• Children and youth who are beyond the control of their parents or guardians.

• Children and youth whose behavior is such that there is a likelihood they may cause harm to themselves or to others or who have committed acts that could cause them to be adjudicated a delinquent child by the court.

Provides services to children and families in need of subsidized adoption or Medicaid

only services, or to children for whom the goal is no longer reunification with their parents (emancipating from foster care youth). The purpose of these services is permanency planning.

Certifies, trains and provides supportive services to foster, adoptive and kin parents.

Provides screening and placement recommendation for adult and juvenile offenders being considered for diversion or transfer from incarceration; oversees private community correction services, monitors offender progress and program standards compliance.

Provides individual public service labor placements and work crews as an alternative sentence to jail and as an economic benefit to County agencies, other governments and charitable non-profit programs.2ce Sentences

Provides conflict resolution/mediation services to assist county agencies and residents to resolve disputes. 2009 Mediation Services

Evaluates arrestees and recommends bond and release conditions for the court, supervises defendants granted pretrial release, ensures attendance at scheduled court appearances and compliance with conditions of bond release. It reduces the cost of pretrial incarceration, ensures court appearance, and reduces new crime by bond released defendants.

Provides planning, research, and evaluation services to the justice agencies which serve Jefferson County.

5.  Community Development http://jeffco.us/commdev/index.htm

Administers federal Block Grants to address housing, economic, infrastructure and resource needs for low to moderate income populations in Jefferson County. The primary grants administered include the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) and the Home Investment Partnership Fund (HOME).  The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), and the HOME Investment Partnership (HOME) programs are used to make awards to local jurisdictions and not-for-profit agencies to improve the housing, economic, and social conditions in their communities.

6.  Jefferson County Head Start http://jeffco.us/head/index.htm

Provides a comprehensive child-focused and family-centered preschool program with a range of individualized services in the areas of education, early childhood development, medical, dental, mental health, nutrition, family support, and parent involvement. The preschool educational program is for children ages 3 to 5.  Eligible families are at the 100% poverty level.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT JEFFERSON COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES

Jefferson County Department of Human Services partners with many non-profits and faith based organizations to meet the needs of its citizens.  Bi-monthly meetings take place with the faith community in order to build partnerships, learn from one another and grow together. Whatever your passion, there is an opportunity to get involved.
